The best in North America.
The Bee-Bell Health Bakery is an institution of sorts. Located on Edmonton's south side it has treated Edmontonians, myself included, to some of the finest baked goods for over a quarter century. I can recall my first visit as if yesterday. At its old location on 103 st I was arm in arm with my new found girlfriend LeighAnn, the screendoor, complete with torn screen slammed behind us, and suddenly we were in a different world. Nostrils flared, salivating and dizzy we were rooted in place. The place was mad with activity. The clerks in front rattling paper bags, an unending assortment of breads and pastries to be selected from, a look into the back revealed rows of ovens and legion of lightly flour dusted bakers.
It was standing room only with customers shoulder to shoulder .......... Bohemian....eclectic....exquisite.....rare...dizzying.....great. I do not recall which I looked forward to more....the trip to the bakery with LeighAnn after a round of "Saturday Mornin' Lovin" or the "Saturday Mornin' Lovin' after the trip to the bakery........either way those are my memories of LeighAnn and the Bee-Bell in 1978. I have been a "FAN" ever since.
They moved to a new location a few years ago......less bohemian....more Euro( the decor)....the bread and pastries are as good as ever. Try the Hovis bread ( only baked on friday ) a big slice with lotsa butter and honey and a big glass of milk....giggle and laugh and lick the honey and crumbs from your lovers lips and then..................enjoy yourselves!!!!!....Regards, Don......firstname.lastname@example.org
I find their products wonderful in quality and value however as a customer ao Bee Bell Health Bakery and owner of three Edmonton Second Cup Coffee Co. cafes, I find that placing two days of muffins in 5 bins (sunday/monday) orders is overly time consuming. I have called once before about this problem and it seemed as nothing was done. I have sent a petition to the other Second Cup Coffee Cafes to be signed and sent to Head Office where I have asked for the Contract of Second Cup and Bee Bell be reviewed under circumstances of time and labour. As a customer of Bee Bell, I feel that my request (a simple request) should be met. I have suggested other bakeries around the city such as BFG Bakery who offered a 7% discount if Second Cup is to change their muffin supplier.
Thank you for your time
I LOVE their muffins...low fat and absolutly delicious!! Yum! Best in North America hands down
I would like to say to all the NON believers Bee Bell is the TOP bakery in the city of Edmonton and had been for over 25 years. As for those whom think its a
There were several bakeries that were institutions when I was growing up, including Bee Bell and Bon Ton. I stopped visiting Bon Ton when the current owner took over. I had a bad experience of being sold old bread as fresh, and will not support an establishment which demonstrates such disregard for its customers. The second was always Bee Bell. This was THE place to buy seven grain bread. However, I think in the past 3 years, Bee Bell's quality has really deteriorated. It is now just another mediocre, run of the mill bakery.
I now buy white bread for my kids at Prairie Mill on 23 Avenue (Terwillegar), and I never have to throw out a slice, and multigrain bread at Treestone. I agree with a previous reviewer that Treestone surpasses Bee Bell in every way.
It saddens me to know that Bee Bell has slipped so much. It was a family favourite for decades.
I remember when i was young, my parents would take my sister and I there, and would allow us to choose one item each..
we loved it..even now me and my fiance go there every saturday morning..
great food and memories..
I was a big Bee Bell enthousiast in the past. I have spent a lot of money on their products, especially the muffins, thinking that I was benefitting my health and diet. I think that it is important for people to know that Bee Bell has re-released the nutritional information on their muffins uncovering shocking statistics.
The muffins once thought healthy, (ex) cranberry orange, bran, cranberry oatmeal), are now boasting upwards of 500 calories, and whopping amounts of fat. Among the worst, the poppyseed muffin has 880 calories, which is significantly more than most McDonalds burgers.
While the baking is delicious, just be aware that these muffins are opposite of healthy, and should be limited
The Bee Bell is far down on the list of good bakeries in Edmonton. I would say, it's fallen off my list long ago. Their croissants aren't croissants, they are bread in a croissant shape. Their muffins aren't muffins they are cake batter baked in a muffin pan. Several of their sweets are mushed together leftovers with oil-based icings to hold them into a "rumball" shape, for example. Their breads are frozen, over-priced for the quality of flour and ingredients. Barely a step above a supermarket bakery.
If you want fine healthful and interesting baking go to the Bon Ton in Meadowlark at 156 St and 87th Ave La Favourite up 95 street from the Italian Centre in Norwood or their second shop in the High Street, 124 St and 102 Avenue strip mall area Buns and Roses in Parkallen 111 St & 65 Ave, the deli at Organic Planet has wonderful organic and healthful treats and breads, Tree Stone bakery on 99 St and (approx) 87 Ave for no yeast Levain raised organic local milled whole grain flours (the best bakery in Edmonton for bread, no contest).
There are many many more.
This is a perfect example of what cakes, bread, and other baked goods are meant to be!
We got a Black Forest Log from them. Disgusting. Log is right. The icing was oil based and coated our mouths, the chocolate cake was missing the
Bee-Bell's is by far one of the best bakeries in Edmonton. Reading some of the negative reviews, i am somewhat shocked at them, maybe you just had a bad experience, maybe you're just fat.
I enjoy the sausage roll at Bee bell. I was told they used lean meat. Anyways I rather eat a sausage roll than a Mc Muffin.
i think it is really bad because they use spoiled meAT IN THERE SASNDWHICHS

When I worked at Telus Plaza I would enjoy a nice cup of coffee and was always tempted by the Bee Bell Bakery muffins. One day out of curiousity I asked for the nutrional information for their muffins. Much to my surprise they had 2 or 3 muffins with only 150 calories and maybe 3.5g of Fat. The Apple Spice muffin was among the list with only 150 Cal and became my Friday morning breakfast with my coffee. My friend and I could not understand how Bee Bell could make such a large delicious muffin with only 150 calories. I thought maybe it was a mistake however I visited another second cup location in the city and they had the same nutritional value.
I no longer work in Telus Plaza but visited a second cup just recently and thought I'd get the apple spice muffin. They were sold out of the apple spice muffin so I asked to view the nutritional info so I could choose a muffin that has similar nutritional info. Much to my surprise the nutritional information was MUCH different than the other 2 second cup's I've visited. The apple spice muffin is NOT 150 cal but over 500 cal!! I could not believe it - how could the nutritional information be that different? No wonder my friend and I couldn't fathom how Bee Bell could make a large muffin with only 150 cal - they can't. I have not bought a muffin since then. Don't get my wrong, the apple spice muffin is absolutely delicious but not for over 500 cal.
So beware - their muffins are super high in calorie content.
Bee-Bell was one of the top bakery's in Edmonton at one time. Not anymore. I remember the days when on a Saturday morning you'd be lucky to get in the door. I was at Bee-Bell this past Saturday at 900 to find only two other customers that should have been my first clue. I spent 5o.oo when I got home the cupcakes were so stale I threw them out along with half the other things I bought because they were so old. To bad, its not the place it use to be!
I love bee bell it has very good breats etc and hot pies. Everything is delicious.
I also noticed the low calorie information and was eating those muffins often. I ended up seeing the accurate information at another coffee shop.... unfortunately, I dont enjoy those muffins anymore :(
